Mail, or post, is a method for transmitting information and tangible objects, wherein written documents, typically enclosed in envelopes and also small packages are delivered to destinations around the world. Anything sent through the postal system is called mail or post.
In principle, a postal service can be private or public. Governments often place restrictions on private postal delivery systems. Since the mid 19th century national postal systems have generally been established as government monopolies with a fee on the article prepaid. Proof of payment is often in the form of adhesive postage stamps, but postage meters are also used for bulk mailing.

User-friendly Interface
Administration of PMEv7 is done via the familiar interface of the universal web browser using a standard look and feel - no learning curve.
Context-sensitive Help
PMEv7 now incorporates context sensitive help, a standard for the PostMaster range of products. In the rare case you come across a situation where you are not sure of what to do, help is just a click away.
Home Page
After login, the user is directed to a "Home Page". PMEv7 Homepage of your organization is completely customizable. You can edit the News, Message of the Day and even the Login Message. In the News section you may provide links to other pages within the Intranet.
HTTP Server
PMEv7 provides you with an in-built HTTP and HTTPS servers for your internal use. HTTP / HTTPS Server allows you to publish information in your internal network.
FTP Server
PMEv7 provides you with an in-built FTP and FTPS servers for your internal use. Using FTP / FTPS Server, users can access their home area on the server to store files and other information. FTP / FTPS also have an optional provision for anonymous login.
Shared Folders FTP Server
PMEv7 FTP Server also comes with a facility for Shared Folders. Using the Shared Folder of FTP Server, users can access a common folder / area on the server to store files and other information. User level read and write permissions are also available for the shared folders.
Quick Messaging
Quick Messaging enables "intra-net" users to communicate with each other in almost real time. QuickMsg provides an effective solution to real-time but informal communication needs in an office.
User Controls For FTP & QuickMsg
Access to FTP Server can be made available to the PMEv7 users selectively. Settings are also available for permissions, quota for users home area. Separate settings are available for to decide is user can access the Shared Folder of the FTP Server and if yes which what permissions. In addition to the user level FTP Settings, user level settings for QuickMsg are also available.
LDAP Server
PMEv7 provides you with an in-built LDAP and LDAPS server. User's email clients can connect to the LDAP Server and obtain information available in the PMEv7 Address Books. Options available to select the address book which will be used by the LDAP Server.
LDAP Server With Authentication
LDAP Server can optionally enforce user name / password based Authentication.
Spool Windows
Spool windows provide facility to the admin to view mails in the PMEv7 internal spools. Facility to sort the emails by From, To, Subject, Date and size of the mails, which are lying in the "Spool" i.e. High, Normal, Low, Deferred folders.
Bandwidth Management
Each module of PMEv7 is optimized to use as much bandwidth as is available. With multiple modules in use it is useful to control how much bandwidth each module should use. Bandwidth Management enables the administrator to manage the bandwidth, thus making sure that mail transfer process is not affected.
Friendly IP List
A lot of checks with PMEv7 Mail Server and PMEv7 Web Server are based on whether the connection to PMEv7 has originated from IP Address within the LAN or an Internet IP Address. PMEv7 maintains a list of Internet IP Address, which is marked as "friendly" and are treated on par with IP Address originating from within the LAN.
Add User Script
Add-user-Script provides a facility to add users to PMEv7, in bulk, with data being read from a csv file. The format of the csv file is pre-defined.
Accounts Admin
Allows granting to some other user (apart from admin) the permissions / rights to manage (add / edit / delete) user accounts. This permitted user has full access to update any user based accounts.
Password Policy
Policy to enforce format and periodic expiry of passwords. This can be enforced in WebMail, SMTP, POP3, IMAP and all Proxy Servers. Suitable alerts (for all protocols) are given to the user on expiry of the password.
User Groups
PMEv7 allows you to define User Groups. Groups can be defined per PMEv7 modules. The groups can be common across the PMEv7 modules or can be separate for each module. The users defined in PMEv7 can be optionally mapped to a Group. Users belonging to a particular group inherit properties of that group. Users can belong to different groups in each PMEv7 module. It is also possible that a user may not belong to a Group.
Rule Control
Rule Control is a powerful feature that lets you change group / user level settings of many groups / users with minimal effort. For example, if you want to introduce mailbox quota for all the users in your organization, you could edit each individual user and change the quota settings. Alternatively, you could use Rule Control and change the quota settings of all the users in a single operation.
Scheduled Configuration Backups
PMEv7 enables you set schedules for automatic back up of PMEv7 files. This feature backs up important files related to PMEv7 configuration. With constant backups take, the backup files tend to occupy large amount of disk space. Rotation provides a function wherein old backup files are not directly deleted but retained till a specified number of backups are created. After this, the oldest backup is deleted.
Configuration Backup In User Defined Paths
In addition to the normal backup which is done within the QLC folder, optionally configuration backup can be taken on User Defined Path / Folder. If folder does not exists it will get created. The path specified could also be on a different machine if the drive is mapped to PMEv7 machine. The backup to User Defined Folder is without "rotation".
External Configuration Backup
Copy the latest Config backup folder via FTP to remote FTP site. Any standard FTP Server may be used for the External Config Backup.
Config Backup Made Version Independent
Restore of Config Backup from an older version to a new version now happens seamlessly.
License Backup
When we take the auto backup of PMEv7 configuration in databackup folder, the license file is also backed up along with the other configurations. This is helpful in restoring the configuration.
Config Dump Report
An HTML Based Report giving details of the complete PMEv7 configuration. This report can be viewed or mailed. This report covers all the configurations from server settings to users settings to settings of filters & other security related features like Archiving, Moderation, BCC Discovery and all advanced settings.
Definition Downloads
Definition Downloads are available for Proxy Server, AntiVirus and AntiSpam. You can choose to manually update your definition files or automate the process by setting up an automated schedule for updating the Definition Files. Intelligent download mechanism ensures downloading of new updates only.
Upgrade Manager
PMEv7 Upgrade Manager will now be smart enough to know which files have changed and download only the changed files. After successful download of changed files, PMEv7 restart will be required. The changed files will be reflected during the next startup.
Dialer
PMEv7 uses the QLC Dialer to dial-up to the Internet in case your organization does not have a direct connection. The QLC Dialer is an independent application, which intelligently manages the connection requests from multiple client applications.
Multiple Logins From Same Machine
PMEv7 now allows different users to be logged into PMEv7 from multiple browser instances using same machine.
Comprehensive Logging / Reports
PMEv7 offers several reporting features to help monitor e-mail and Internet usage. These include real time statistics, reports for incoming and outgoing messages as well as logs of all activity. All PMEv7 modules have logs that contain detailed technical information that is used for debugging, trouble-shooting; and in general ensuring that PMEv7 works properly. All logs can be enabled or disabled and can provide normal or detailed level of logging.

Log Rotation
With constant logging of activities, log files tend to get large and occupy large amount of disk space. Hence, they should either be periodically purged (manually) or log rotation should be used. Log Rotation provides a function wherein log files are periodically reset based on the Log Rotation mode. Old log files are not directly deleted but retained till a specified number of files are created. After this, the oldest log file is deleted.
Free Space Checks
PMEv7 now provides an in-built facility to check for free space on the hard disk of the PMEv7 machine. If free space falls less than warning-levels, apart from visual alerts, a QuickMsg / Email is sent. If free space falls less than critical-levels, apart from visual alerts, you can optionally Stop Services or Shutdown the System. This ensures that while the free space is less than critical-levels no mails are transferred.
Certificates
Secure Servers now works with Third Party Certificates like Verisign. Any company may procure a "Trusted Certificate" from a "Certification Authority" and use the same along with PMEv7 SSL Enabled Servers.
Stop Services Option
New option in the WebAdmin "Options" button. The action on clicking this button is to "Stop All Services incl Mail Transfer (but not HTTP / HTPPS)". The "Stop All Services" action happens only in the memory and is not saved in ini file.
Restore Services Option
New option in the WebAdmin "Options" button. The action on clicking this button is to "Start All Services" (as shut by "Stop Services" option)". The "Start All Services" options brings the system to the same condition as before "Stop All Services" action was invoked.
Sanitizing of User Names (QSM User / Alias Table)
New option in the WebAdmin "Options" button. The action on clicking this button is "to go through all RealNames of the Users in the QSM-User Table and replace any char greater than ASCII value 128 with space". Also "to go through all AliasNames of the Alias in the Alias Table and replace any char greater than ASCII value 128 with space".
Sanitizing of Address (Address Book)
New option in the WebAdmin "Options" button. The action on clicking this button is to "go through all Address of the Global Address Book and for all the fields in the Book, replace any char greater than ascii value 128 with space". Also to "go through all Address of the Personal Address Book and replace any char greater than ascii value 128 with space".
Sanitizing of TrustManager
New option in the WebAdmin "Options" button. This option is used to sanatize the certificates received from remote servers. The acion on click is to "go through all TrustManager entires and f any entry is null or invalid, it is removed. Further if any entry is mapped to cert_id which invalid or not present, it is also removed".
Exception Logging
A new log (PMEv7 level) which logs all the exceptions occurred in the system has been introduced.
Logos & Colors
PMEv7 now allows you to change the PMEv7 Logo (displayed WebAdmin, WebMail and WebCal) and replace it with company logo. Image types that can be used are .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png. Further, change the look and feel of PMEv7 by choosing from pre-defined ColorSkins. The chosen scheme is applied in WebAdmin, WebMail and WebCal. Alternatively, custom colors can also be defined.
HTML License Signature
Size / Color for Settings For Signature is now available. We can also have logo.
Self Diagnostics
Self Diagnostics component periodically checks all the Servers running in PMEv7. In case any server is not responding, alert is generated. The monitoring schedule is user-defined.
Developed In Java
PMEv7 application is written in Java and can run on any operating system including Microsoft Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP, Unix, Sun Solaris, SGI and Linux. In fact, PMEv7 can be deployed on any operating system for which the JVM is available. Use of Java 1.6 is mandatory.
Network Based License
Licensing of PMEv7 is based on Client Access Licenses (CALs) purchased for a single network (LAN / WAN) installation. All PMEv7 modules like PME-Mail, PME-Web & PME-Calendar have their individual CAL count. Plug-ins to modules like AntiVirus and AntiSpam have the same CAL as their parent module.
